报告摘要:
Among different processing routes, powdermetallurgy and rapid quenching have large potential for development of novelhigh-performance materials thanks to excellent control over phase andmicrostructure selection, and related physical and mechanical properties. Thisoverview describes methods and process variables employed for synthesis ofadvanced nanostructured lightweight metallic materials. These methods includerapid quenching and mechanical attrition for the production of metastablematerials, powder consolidation to create bulk specimens with the desiredmicrostructure and properties, and additive manufacturing for fabrication ofparts with complex geometries and modulated meso-scale microstructures.Experimental data for the resulting structures for single- and multi-phasematerials will be described for selected materials, including nanostructuredand ultrafine-grained phases, quasicrystals, composites and metallic glasses, and the mechanisms responsible for phase and microstructure formation and therelated properties will be discussed. Consideration of the problems andchallenges for bulk processing will also be addressed in order to derive designaspects and processing guidelines for property optimization of nanostructuredmetallic materials.
